Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience in data network operations, data communications networking, or systems programming. Relevant telecommunications experience with HSI, data, and IPTV network elements, strong project management skills, proficiency in troubleshooting network issues, and a solid understanding of Ethernet switches, routers, and their connectivity are required. Excellent logical and analytical troubleshooting skills, strong oral and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and good organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing situations are also necessary. Bonus points are awarded for experience with vendor equipment such as ALU, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, Calix, Adtran, Tellabs, or Ciena platforms, and knowledge of routing protocols including ISIS, OSPF, and BGP.
The Operations Engineer II will manage and execute proactive maintenance tasks on network elements for voice, video, and data networks. Responsibilities include developing and implementing plans for capacity augmentation, performing engineering and applied research to design and evaluate new projects, and troubleshooting issues across IP, ATM, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networks, focusing on OSI Layers 1-3. The role also involves configuring network equipment using CLI/TL1 commands and GUIs, analyzing and isolating problems at both the physical and logical layers, and maintaining a thorough understanding of circuit and packet switching, the OSI reference model, frame relay, and ATM switching. Effective communication with customers and team members is essential, as is the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness.
