Requirements

  • Ability to perform functions under direct supervision of the provider
  • Proficiency in documenting in EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
  • Knowledge of taking vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature)
  • Skills in performing basic laboratory tests and CLIA Waived testing (e.g., pregnancy test, urine dips, Strep Screening, Influenza, PT/INR, glucose testing, Hemoglobin, Hemoglobin A1C)
  • Ability to administer medication, authorize refills, and e-scribe prescriptions
  • Familiarity with preparing and transporting laboratory specimens, Pap smear set-up, suture removal, and dressing changes
  • Competence in maintaining medical records, immunizations, and logs (e.g., STI log, refrigerator temperatures, expired medication)
  • Front desk skills including checking in patients, scheduling appointments, and handling inquiries

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone and referring inquiries
  • Escort patients to exam room, verify patient information, interview, review/record medical history
  • Take vital signs and document in EMR with signature and title
  • Prepare patients for exams by providing gowns/drapes, positioning, arranging instruments/supplies/equipment
  • Collect, prepare, and transport laboratory specimens; perform basic lab tests and record in EMR
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies/instruments; administer medications; authorize refills or phone prescriptions
  • Place lab/diagnostics orders, prepare referrals in EMR/IRIS/County Care Portal
  • Obtain immunization records from I-Care; document and maintain in EMR
  • Give patient instructions per provider's directive; instruct on aftercare procedures
  • Ensure medical reports/labs are filed in patient records before appointments
  • Perform front desk duties: check in patients, schedule appointments
  • Keep exam rooms clean/stocked; maintain/sterilize instruments/equipment
  • Handle telephone messages, triage/process messages from patients/front office to providers
  • E-scribe medications to pharmacy; generate sample medication labels
  • Prepare schedule for daily huddle, sign off in EMR
  • Maintain logs/checks (STI log, refrigerator temps, expired meds, oxygen)
  • Complete/fax STI reports to Board of Health
  • Fax/scan/verify patient documents in EMR
  • Inventory stock, place orders, verify receipts
  • Document point-of-care test results/procedures in patient records
  • Prepare Revenue Cycle Clinic Close Report at end of shift
  • Route patients to ancillary departments (e.g., laboratory, radiology)
