Requirements

  • Oversight by Director-Marine & Technical Operations (implied reporting structure)
  • Knowledge of STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping), SOLAS Convention Chapters III (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea), COLREG (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972), CLIA (Cruise Line International Association), and associated national/international legislations related to marine, safety, and environmental protection
  • Expertise in shipboard and shoreside safety/marine training strategies, procedures, and compliance
  • Ability to perform gap analysis on company, local, international SOLAS/STCW/CLIA, and environmental regulations
  • Competence in leadership, mentoring, coaching, and maintaining trainer competence
  • Skills in developing short/medium-term training strategies and supporting long-term strategies
  • Experience with quality assurance processes, vessel assessments, ship visits, and monitoring documents/certificates
  • Familiarity with Flag State certified programs, Port/Flag State inspections, and technical safety bulletins

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve shipboard and training operations for Disney Cruise Line
  • Ensure high standards of marine, safety, and marine environmental protection through development, implementation, and monitoring of consistent training policies, procedures, and delivery/application plans
  • Manage onboard STCW/SOLAS training programs and ensure compliance with Flag State certified programs
  • Develop shipboard training programs
  • Develop and supervise ships’ MTO (Marine & Technical Operations) training program plans, providing guidance via gap analysis for compliance with company, local, international SOLAS/STCW/CLIA, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain level of competence for onboard Marine and Technical trainers through leadership, mentoring, and coaching
  • Create training strategies for shipboard and shoreside professional training (short/medium term); support Senior Manager of Marine Operations and Fleet Training for long-term strategies
  • Develop, maintain, and perform quality assurance on shoreside Professional Trainings
  • Verify and ensure processes guarantee company professional training requirements are met for all officers and crew
  • Lead and coordinate monthly Training Officer conference calls, including minutes, follow-ups, and closure of scope-specific items
  • Monitor training-related documents, technical safety bulletins, certificates; organize ship visits for Flag State inspections/renewals; follow up on observations/deficiencies from Port/Flag State inspections
  • Ensure quality assurance visits for trainings onboard each ship and private islands are properly conducted by the fleet training team
  • Conduct vessel assessments, monitoring correct application and quality assurance of training procedures onboard the fleet of vessels and islands, highlighting best practices
