Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school and active member of the Texas Bar in good standing
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant legal experience, including significant experience in transportation law, international trade compliance, and regulatory advisory within the logistics or supply chain industry
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Able to prepare comprehensive reports and provide data-driven legal insights
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and high energy to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining composure under pressure
  • Self-motivated and assertive, with the ability to excel in a collaborative environment while working independently as needed
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively across different time zones

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts related to logistics services, including warehouse management agreements, transportation agreements across multiple modes, and global supply chain arrangements
  • Serve as primary legal contact for internal stakeholders and liaise with external parties such as customers, vendors, and outside counsel
  • Advise on legal and regulatory matters affecting logistics operations, with particular focus on transportation laws, customs compliance, import/export requirements (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, FMC, OSRA 2022, CBP, CTPAT)
  • Identify legislative and regulatory changes affecting logistics and advise business units on compliance measures
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert for interpretation of contracts, applicable laws and regulations, and company policies and procedures
  • Represent SL Legal in internal and external meetings and maintain clear communication with third parties, including customers, vendors, partners, and auditors
  • Assist in developing and implementing compliance programs and internal policies to mitigate legal and operational risks
  • Deliver training and develop training materials for business teams on contract compliance, legal obligations, and risk management
  • Promote legal compliance and best practices across business operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
