Candidates should have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or lead engineer role. They must have experience building large-scale distributed systems handling petabytes of data per day, proficiency in Python, Go, or C++, and proven experience building and operating large-scale, distributed data systems on a major cloud platform, preferably GCP. A deep understanding of data processing, ETL/ELT, networking principles, and I/O optimization is required, along with strong architectural skills. Experience in robotics, IoT, dbt, containerization, and designing resilient systems is a plus.
The Lead Software Engineer will define and own the technical roadmap for the data infrastructure platform, making key architectural decisions. They will own the development of the resilient data offload system, ensuring the fleet meets strict SLAs and utilizes depot bandwidth. The role includes driving the creation of a centralized cloud service to manage bandwidth, prioritize data events, and coordinate offload activities. Responsibilities also involve building and maintaining the infrastructure for ingesting and transforming robot metrics into queryable tables and analytics-ready models, implementing robust monitoring, and ensuring system resiliency. Additionally, the Lead Software Engineer will mentor other engineers on the team, fostering best practices in system design, coding, and operational excellence.
