Requirements

Candidates should possess 5+ years of experience in building and operating large-scale Linux-based service-oriented architectures, with expertise in SQL systems being a bonus. They should have a deep interest in learning and working with new technologies and programming languages, along with proficiency in Golang, Ruby, PHP, or Bash. Experience with Docker and orchestration tools such as Nomad, Kubernetes, or Amazon ECS is required, and familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet (specifically Puppet) is also necessary. Experience with observability and application performance monitoring (APM) tools, such as Alertmanager, ELK, Prometheus, New Relic, Sentry and Lightstep is desired.

Responsibilities

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will contribute to the planning and implementation of key initiatives to enhance the stability and reliability of BigCommerce’s database infrastructure, applying software engineering and SRE principles to create tools, services, and automation. You will collaborate on platform-level initiatives that drive engineering automation and efficiency across the organization, continuously improving and evolving the observability of BigCommerce’s platform architecture. You will take full ownership of issues and projects, driving them to completion with autonomy, and participate in planning and technical design sessions. Additionally, you will join the team’s on-call rotation.
