Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview

Tenstreet is a rapidly growing SaaS provider dominating the trucking industry. Our platform is hosted across our own hardware in a colocation facility and multiple cloud providers. The Infrastructure team is responsible for managing a highly scalable and secure environment, encompassing the specification, purchase, implementation, administration, security, and monitoring of hardware, software, and third-party services. This is a hybrid role.

Our infrastructure engineering team possesses broad expertise in on-prem and cloud architecture, performance, security, system administration, network administration and analysis, database administration, automation, incident response, troubleshooting, access control, and audit.

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates a strong ability to learn, implement, and manage new technologies, rather than someone with pre-existing deep experience in every specific tool we use. The ideal candidate makes sound decisions and is results-oriented. While working within an established framework of standards and procedures, the Infrastructure Engineer operates with significant autonomy and responsibility.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • On-premises and cloud server and service administration, including designing, building, monitoring, and securing various Linux virtual servers and containers.
  • Managing our NetApp storage tier and other file servers.
  • Utilizing tools like Ansible Automation Platform to automate routine activities (server building and provisioning, administration activities, configuration management, etc.).
  • Collaborating with development and product teams to ensure infrastructure scalability and alignment with business needs.
  • Employing monitoring and analysis tools such as Datadog and Wazuh IDS to collect and analyze system performance metrics for capacity planning, proactive response, and troubleshooting.
  • Applying and overseeing information security controls across various operating environments.
  • Understanding and assisting in the management of our network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and third-party services like Cloudflare for WAF/DDOS.

Broader Responsibilities:

  • Building and supporting resilient and scalable systems that achieve high availability.
  • Managing environmental and architectural changes with a focus on maximizing implementation pace without compromising security or functionality.
  • Identifying technological and procedural impediments within Tenstreet and devising solutions to improve company effectiveness.
  • Communicating technical topics and concerns clearly to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Administering a variety of applications and services for both internal and external users.
  • Balancing the need to maintain current operations with allocating time for system enhancements and new strategic initiatives.
  • Mentoring and training other team members and colleagues from other roles.
  • Participating in on-call rotations.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving production issues (hardware/software/applications).

Requirements

You might be a good fit for this Infrastructure Engineer position if you:

  • Have demonstrated the ability to learn new technologies, whether or not they are related to your existing knowledge base.
  • Make sound decisions and work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Possess at least 5+ years of experience in Linux systems administration, particularly with a DevOps-oriented background.
  • Have experience with... [Further experience details were cut off in the original description].
