Director of Quality Assurance
BestowFull Time
Expert & Leadership (9+ years)
Candidates must be hands-on, pragmatic, and technically astute with experience leading the development and execution of quality assurance processes for aerospace systems. A strong understanding of Department of Defense standards, FAA certification requirements (Part 21, 23, 91, 135), and quality management systems (AS9100, ISO9001, ISO27001) is essential. Experience in building and maintaining digital QMS, leading quality reviews, addressing production nonconformances, and embedding quality into the design, build, and sustainment lifecycle is required. Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), Configuration Management, and developing standard repair documentation is also necessary. The role requires experience in supplier quality oversight, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor a quality team is expected.
The Head of Quality & Build Reliability will design and operate a digital Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure traceability, scalability, and compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and relevant FAA regulations. They will lead audit readiness, surveillance audits, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and NCR processes. This role involves building systems to support FAA Type Certification, Production Certification, or Operational Approval for unmanned systems. Responsibilities include establishing and enforcing quality standards across internal manufacturing and final assembly, providing oversight of special processes, and partnering with Production and Engineering to improve yield and minimize rework. The position will oversee supplier quality activities, drive root cause analysis with suppliers, and collaborate with Engineering on DFM, DFT, and serviceability. Additionally, the role will support conformity inspections and FAA production readiness activities, ensure documentation traceability for airworthiness release, and lead or support field return assessments and design feedback loops. The Head of Quality & Build Reliability will also build, lead, and mentor a team of quality professionals.
Develops hypersonic aircraft for high-speed travel
Hermeus focuses on developing hypersonic aircraft capable of reaching speeds of Mach 5, which is over twice the speed of the Concorde. This means their aircraft can travel at approximately 3,800 miles per hour, significantly cutting down travel times. The aircraft operates using a hypersonic engine powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100 turbine, which has already undergone successful testing. Hermeus aims to sell these high-speed aircraft to airlines and government agencies interested in fast transportation. What sets Hermeus apart from competitors is its specific focus on hypersonic travel and its recent achievement in engine testing, which demonstrates its progress in this niche market. The company's goal is to revolutionize high-speed travel and make it a viable option for commercial use.
