Requirements

  • Possess and retain an unrestricted motor vehicle license with a history of safe driving habits
  • Ability to read work orders, blueprints, and sketches, and mark out locations
  • Ability to take measurements and make sketches to update Company records
  • Experience with pipe locating equipment (e.g., Metrotech, pipe horn, metal detector)
  • Ability to work within specific time frames, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and keep vehicle and equipment in proper working order
  • Complete all training to Company standards
  • Live within 30 minutes of the Springfield location (residency requirement)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of work-related experience (e.g., Utility Location or Utility Construction work)
  • Positive attitude and team player
  • Pass a D.O.T. drug screen (if not presently in a covered position)
  • Good physical condition
  • Regular attendance and compliance with Company’s employee conduct policy
  • Willingness to participate in rotating standby/on-call rotation, accept shift/emergency assignments, and work overtime

Responsibilities

  • Drive to various locations throughout the day
  • Use Company approved locating equipment
  • Set up job sites and paint/mark pipe locations within requested limits
  • Perform research needed for accurate mark-outs and complete all necessary paperwork to meet 72-hour compliance
  • Read blueprints, sketches, work orders, etc
  • Meet with contractors and city engineers on large jobs
  • Respond to third-party damages and assist in completing investigation reports
  • Perform leakage inspections by mobile or walking survey and maintain leakage records (e.g., Premark, job assessments)
  • Check locating and leakage detection equipment to ensure good working condition
  • Make emergency situations safe by appropriate means
  • Exercise independent judgment when no standard procedures, methods, or guidelines are available
  • Participate in rotating standby/on-call rotation for emergency Dig Safe and leakage requests after hours and weekends
  • Screen Dig Safe requests
  • Perform leak investigations, leak surveys, and encroachments as required
  • Perform other related duties as required
