Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to diagnose and repair complex systems
  • Knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment
  • Ability to oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, road test vehicles, and provide coaching
  • Experience supervising technicians, including hiring/termination decisions, performance evaluations, coaching/counseling/training, and corrective action

Responsibilities

  • Supervise technician (A, B, C level, and lead) team responsible for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel), machinery supporting post-collection facility, and equipment servicing container shop
  • Provide direction to technicians to ensure all repairs/maintenance comply with Company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
  • Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe, timely completion and reduce lost productivity
  • Monitor operational performance/efficiency and redirect activities; report to management with recommendations for improvements
  • Conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks; coach/counsel/train technicians; conduct performance evaluations; make hiring/termination decisions with HR/management; evaluate for merit increases/promotions/job changes
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure compliance; follow up as needed
  • Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues/resolutions for compliance
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and road test vehicles
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory control to maintain equipment/parts levels within budget; review/approve expenses; refer larger ones to manager
  • Manage administrative matters: payroll, employee records, maintenance records in Dossier software, prepare/submit budget, set departmental goals aligning with targets/objectives
