Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Knowledge of vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to diagnose and repair complex systems
  • Knowledge of welding tools to fix heavy equipment
  • Ability to oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, road test vehicles, and provide coaching
  • Experience supervising technicians, including hiring/termination decisions, performance evaluations, training, and coaching/counseling

Responsibilities

  • Supervise technician team (A, B, C level, and leads) for preventive maintenance/repair of fleet (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel), post-collection facility machinery, container shop equipment, and other heavy-duty equipment in compliance with company safety/compliance standards and federal/state regulations
  • Plan and schedule repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, reducing lost productivity
  • Provide direction to technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and timely repair/maintenance work
  • Monitor operational performance/efficiency and redirect activities; report to management with recommendations for improvements
  • Conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks; coach/counsel/train technicians; handle hiring/termination with HR/management; conduct performance evaluations and recommend merit increases/promotions/job changes
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs for compliance; follow up as needed
  • Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians
  • Conduct Quality Control Inspections, track issues/resolutions for compliance
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, coach technicians, and road test vehicles
  • Oversee maintenance shop inventory control, ensure parts/equipment levels, manage purchases within budget; review/approve expenses and refer larger ones to manager
  • Maintain advanced knowledge for on-site/on-road repairs
  • Manage administrative matters: payroll, employee records, maintenance records in Dossier Software, prepare/submit budgets, set departmental goals aligned with targets/objectives
