This role requires the Field Service Engineer (FSE) to commute daily to customer sites to provide service. FSEs are provided with a Company (Fleet) vehicle to allow for daily travel to multiple customer locations in their defined service area. Overnight travel of approximately 10% is required to service customers and participate in training programs.

Location/Division Specific Information

The ideal candidate will reside in or around California's San Francisco Bay Area. You will travel to customer sites 2-3 times a day, typically during business hours.

Service Area: San Francisco Bay Area - Customer Sites, including San Francisco along the water and South San Francisco, Stanford.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, and maintain various laboratory equipment products, including temperature monitoring, incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and cryogenic storage.
  • Work directly with customers to schedule visits, address their concerns, and provide reassurance while resolving their problems.
  • Complete learning assignments on time, read procedures, submit expense reports, and maintain spare part inventory.

Requirements

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certification, associate's, or bachelor's degree in HVAC, electronics, or engineering is helpful.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of proven experience repairing electrical, mechanical, medical, refrigeration, or laboratory equipment is required.
    • 1+ year of customer-facing experience is required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledgeable in the use of tools such as digital multimeters, thermometers, hand, and power tools.
    • Driven: Seek opportunities and challenges with intensity to consistently meet timelines.
    • Customer skills: Build positive relationships, maintain mature behavior, and deliver customer-centric service.
    • Problem-solving skills: Diagnosing and solving using schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and other technical resources.
    • Technological proficiency: Efficiently operate computers, smartphones, basic networks, and specialized software.
    • Independent: Prioritize tasks, use good judgment, and apply all available resources.
  • Other:
    • Valid Driver's License
    • Safe Driving Record

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards.
  • Cleanroom requirements: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc., allowed.
  • Laboratory Setting.
  • Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.).
