The Field Winding Engineer is responsible for providing electrical and winding repair services to customers operating a wide range of original equipment, including generators, motors, and associated systems. This role is part of the BRUSH Power Generation team at Baker Hughes, focused on enhancing the company's portfolio of electromechanical equipment. The position involves performing inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on generator HV windings, as well as assisting with mechanical service assignments and supervising customer training.

Requirements

  • Education: Technical degree from an accredited school.
  • Experience: 3+ years of field service experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with basic hand tools, multi-meters, megger, rigging, and generator special tooling.
    • Experience with air, hydrogen, and liquid cooled generators in 2 and 4 pole configurations.
    • Experience with generator high voltage testing (PI, DC Leakage, and Hipot).
    • Experience with generator rotor and stator robotic test equipment (RoGIS, MAGIC, and MAGIC Jr.) is preferred.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel frequently (75% - 85% of the time), both domestically and internationally, on short notice.
  • Other: Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and technical requirements; prepare method statements and detailed reports. Ability to conduct on-site risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Performing winding inspection, electrical testing, maintenance, and repairs on Generator HV windings on customer sites globally.
  • Providing basic mechanical strip-down (and rebuild) of machines to gain access to the generator windings along with electrical testing on high and low voltage windings.
  • Conducting visual winding inspections of the stator, rotor, and excitation system as well as in-situ generator winding repairs including stator re-wedge work.
  • Working as part of a team for on-site stator strip and rewind operations.
  • Supervising and training internal and external customers.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and technical requirements; prepare method statements and prepare detailed and concise reports for submission to customers.
  • Attending technical meetings on-site and at customers’ premises.
  • Conducting an on-site risk assessment on every assignment and record details thereof on the special form provided.
  • Assisting mechanical service engineer(s) on assignments, which will not necessarily involve winding related activities.
