Position Overview

Wealthsimple is seeking an Employee Relations, Associate to join our growing People Operations Team. This is a unique opportunity for a newly called lawyer with an interest in employment law to work in a dynamic role with both legal and operational aspects. You will help operationalize and scale Wealthsimple's employee relations function, fostering a fair, compliant, and supportive workplace. This role offers hands-on experience in legal risk analysis, drafting, and strategic problem-solving within an in-house setting.

Responsibilities

Employee Relations Triage, Support, Administration & Operations

  • Administer and process employee relations policies and programs, including employee exits, leaves (parental, sick, job-protected), and accommodations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations inquiries, intake, and assessment.
  • Provide support and guidance to employees, HR business partners, managers, and stakeholders on applicable policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant employment standards.
  • Escalate matters to the Legal Counsel, Employment as appropriate.

Legal & Compliance Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with Legal Counsel, Employment on routine and complex employee relations matters, including terminations, leaves, accommodations, immigration, workplace investigations, and employment litigation.
  • Assist in the preparation of termination documentation, settlement agreements, contracts, employee correspondence, and other legal documentation.
  • Ensure legal compliance in all documentation and correspondence.

Policy Development & Implementation

  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of employee relations policies and procedures, ensuring clarity, compliance, and alignment with Wealthsimple's values.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, improve, and scale existing employee relations processes.

Project Work & Scaling Function

  • Lead or support projects aimed at scaling the employee relations function.
  • Create self-service resources for employees.
  • Automate current processes.

Requirements

  • Newly called lawyer with an interest in employment law.
  • Legal knowledge and a passion for people.
  • Ability to navigate routine and complex matters with a human touch and a keen eye for legal requirements.
  • Strong understanding of legal risk analysis, drafting, and strategic problem-solving.
