Position Overview

Relay is seeking a highly creative, empathetic, and analytical Director of Product Marketing to join and lead our growing Product Marketing team. You will be responsible for driving Relay’s Product Marketing strategy, championing the voice of our customers, and building a strong product marketing organization. Our mission is to increase the success rate of small businesses by providing an all-in-one, collaborative money management platform that is human-centric and focused on delivering value.

The Product Marketing team at Relay is hyper-focused on ensuring our small business customers derive maximum value from our platform. Working closely with key stakeholders across Relay, the team drives positioning and messaging, product launches, pricing and packaging, market research, competitive intelligence, and other initiatives that accelerate our mission of helping entrepreneurs build healthy, cash-flow-positive businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Go-to-Market Strategies: Drive go-to-market strategies for new features and product launches, managing a team of product marketers responsible for key product lines and features (e.g., core banking, expense management).
  • Team Development: Hire, train, and develop a high-performing Product Marketing team, supporting team members’ growth and professional development.
  • Customer Advocacy: Build a deep understanding of Relay’s customers and champion the voice of the customer in all product marketing initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders in product, sales, demand generation, enablement, customer success, and other key teams.
  • Internal Champion: Champion product marketing (and our customers!) to the rest of the company and drive alignment for product and feature launches.
  • Product Roadmap Influence: Inform and help develop the product roadmap by bringing core insights on customer pain points and jobs to be done.
  • Messaging and Positioning: Leverage customer knowledge to craft positioning and messaging that meaningfully resonates with our market and users. Own “the voice of the customer” and take key inputs from your team to develop this.
  • Market Insights: Own Relay’s messaging and positioning, and make messaging improvements and updates where necessary. Influence product direction by building and socializing deep insights into our market.
  • Analysis: Conduct comprehensive customer, market, and competitive analysis that leverages both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Planning and Reporting: Own quarterly/annual planning, metrics, and KPI reporting for product marketing.
  • Leadership Style: Lead with influence and be a player-coach to your team.

Who You Are

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in product marketing, ideally in a startup environment.
  • Management Experience: At least 5 years of management experience, responsible for a Product Marketing team’s performance.
  • Launch Success: Proven success in launching and driving adoption for a new product or feature, with the ability to speak to tangible business and customer outcomes.
  • Storytelling: A skilled storyteller who can craft and deliver narratives that resonate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders and customers.
  • Customer Focus: A passion for talking to and deeply understanding customers, with the ability to extrapolate compelling messaging and product ideas from customer conversations and research.
  • Trusted Resource: A go-to resource for questions related to customers, product, upcoming releases, and effective marketing and sales strategies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to build strong partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders and view stakeholder management as a key responsibility.
  • Project Management: Superior project management skills, with the ability to lead and influence multiple cross-functional partners to work with urgency and meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to determine KPIs and work effectively with data.
