5+ years experience managing a high performing team
5+ years experience as a backend software developer
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable with a high degree of autonomy (self-motivated, organized) and the ability to work remotely across time zones
Deep technical background leveraged to drive operational excellence and good technical decisions
Skilled at growing and managing engineering managers and very senior individual contributors
Track record of working lower in the stack and building successful teams
Passion for developer tooling, eye for detail, and ability to work well with customers, users, and partners

Responsibilities

Management of teams of engineers distributed across Europe and the US
Ensure predictable delivery and operational excellence of the components the teams ship
Align the team with business and product goals by working closely with product management
Facilitate communication across teams and status reporting for critical projects
Hire and retain talent
Hold a high bar for engineering excellence
Lead teams on designing, developing, and maintaining parts of the container runtime stack (Docker Engine, containerd, VM and host-to-VM filesharing and networking)
