Requirements

The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering leader with a proven ability to lead teams in delivering secure, reliable, and scalable SaaS platforms, emphasizing long-term sustainability and technical excellence. Deep architectural experience, including system design and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, containerization, distributed systems), is required, along with the ability to contribute to code reviews or production code when necessary. Hands-on experience with agentic AI development tools, such as Cursor or Windsurf, and an understanding of their real-world impact are also essential, as is a track record of guiding teams through AI adoption and defining best practices.

Responsibilities

The Director, Engineering will lead one or more engineering teams focused on delivering scalable, secure, and impactful technology for platform areas supporting strategic philanthropy and life sciences. Responsibilities include shaping architectural vision, ensuring technical excellence, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver features and infrastructure. The role involves mentoring teams, driving high standards in engineering practices, participating in design reviews and code contributions, and fostering a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement. They will partner with Product, UX, QA, SaaS Ops, and DevOps to ensure secure, performant, and user-focused solutions, drive engineering processes for high code quality and efficient deployment, support release planning and capacity forecasting, and ensure security, accessibility, and compliance throughout the development lifecycle. Additionally, the Director will promote an AI-first development culture, guiding teams in the responsible and effective use of AI-powered tooling.
