Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor of 5-7 years’ PQE
  • General contract and commercial law experience, preferably at a top-tier Korean or international law firm
  • High standard of written and fluent spoken English
  • Native written and spoken Korean

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Korea Branch team, Japan team, and other stakeholders to manage review, negotiation, development, and deployment of reinsurance documentation (40%)
  • Serve as Compliance Officer for the Korea Branch, responsible for overall compliance function and designations including Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Privacy Officer, AML Officer (45-50%)
  • Identify and take ownership of legal and regulatory issues for the Korea Branch
  • Attend Korea Branch entity meetings and present on legal and compliance matters
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external policies and regulations for the Korea Branch
  • Draft and update Korea Branch Operating Guidelines
  • Proactively research and advise on relevant Korean regulatory matters
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for regulators and ensure timely filings
  • Act as first contact for liaison with Korean regulators and authorities
  • Manage risk management matters in consultation with AVP, Risk, Asia, including corporate governance, internal controls, fraud prevention/detection
  • Lead embedding of risk management framework, including regular stress tests
  • Own Korea Branch-specific policies (e.g., Internal Controls Policy, Risk Management Standard)
  • Ensure risk management framework meets local regulatory requirements as CRO
  • Advise on risk-related matters, interventions, and risk culture
  • Draft, review, and advise on commercial agreements and handle ad hoc legal/compliance queries (e.g., data protection, HR, IT, finance) (10-15%)
  • Perform annual/quarterly legal compliance activities, including internal/external training
  • Provide ad hoc advice on disputed claims
  • Liaise with wider Pacific Life Re and Pacific Life legal teams for standards and collaboration
