Requirements

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and be an active member in good standing with a State Bar. A minimum of 3 years of experience as an attorney, with a significant focus on contract drafting and negotiation, preferably in-house or at a law firm with a commercial contracts practice, is required. Experience with data privacy and security laws such as GDPR and CCPA is necessary, along with demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal issues and communicate solutions clearly to diverse audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are essential, as are strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with the technology or data industry and experience in developing legal processes and contract management systems are preferred.

Responsibilities

The Associate Legal Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, including master service agreements, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, data licensing agreements, and non-disclosure agreements. They will provide practical legal advice to internal stakeholders across sales, business development, product, and operations, and identify, assess, and communicate legal and commercial risks, developing mitigation strategies. Responsibilities also include improving contract templates, playbooks, and internal legal processes for greater efficiency, conducting legal research on contract law and data-related regulations, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. The role involves assisting in training business teams on contract matters, contributing legal expertise to strategic initiatives like fundraising and M&A, and handling miscellaneous legal tasks as directed.
