Requirements

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree and have at least 7 years of post-qualification legal experience, along with a strong understanding of commercial transactions, particularly in technology or edtech. Familiarity with U.S. data privacy laws such as FERPA, COPPA, and state regulations is required, and CIPP/E certification is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with business judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity, are essential.

Responsibilities

The Head of Commercial Legal will draft, negotiate, and manage a variety of commercial contracts, including Master Services and data processing agreements, vendor MSAs, and strategic partnership terms. They will collaborate with Sales and Legal leadership to establish deal playbooks and ensure compliance, partner with cross-functional teams to support procurement and vendor agreements, provide clear legal guidance on data privacy and risk mitigation, and escalate complex issues to senior leadership. Additionally, they will track and improve legal processes to support scale across districts and vendors.
