Requirements

Proven track record of taking concept ideas through selection process and into tooling and mass production
Degree-level technical qualification, probably Mechanical or Product Design Engineering, with significant product design content
Extensive experience in a mechanical/product design environment
Strong leadership experience required with excellent communication skills and an inspiring presence

Responsibilities

Lead a global team of talented Product Design and Mechanical Engineers, directing and governing the design process through innovation and detailed development of consumer-centric concepts, architectures, and technologies
Work seamlessly with Global team of product developers to deliver consumer-focused concept product design ideas and lead through each development phase to Mass Production
Communicate abstract concepts effectively to senior executive leadership in a quickly digestible manner
Lead team to quickly generate visual and physical definitions of new products that convey key attributes of function and layout
Work with Advanced Development, R&D, Product Development, Quality, and Product Marketing teams to ensure a cohesive approach to product design
Support communication of ideas quickly and drive team in using sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes to evaluate solutions
Inject energy, enthusiasm, and creativity into all activities
Vigorously defend best ideas while being open and receptive to input from a broad creative team
Apply sound engineering principles to technical problems
Apply comprehensive understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes and materials to optimize designs
Manage external providers of technology solutions to reduce time to market
Develop and execute verification and validation test plans
Understand importance of clear product definition during design process while appreciating sparks of inspiration
Demonstrate natural curiosity and relentless drive to find better solutions to everyday problems
Demonstrate integrity and courage in work, including breaking the mold
Continually evaluate and improve designs for cost effectiveness, manufacturing improvements, increased quality, and value
Identify new ideas, products, and/or features that improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs, and keep product line at forefront of industry
