The Opportunity

Flock Safety is seeking an experienced and passionate UAS Flight Test Engineer to join our team focused on advancing Drone as First Responder (DFR) programs. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in building and executing technical tests for essential DFR system components. Responsibilities will include piloting drones, supporting logistics, and conducting research and development to enhance our DFR capabilities. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge technology that directly impacts life-saving efforts and improves public safety.

This is an on-site position located at our facilities in West Lafayette, Indiana, and requires up to 25% domestic travel. As an individual contributor, the Flight Test Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of our drone systems, providing critical insights, and driving technological improvements.

The Skillset

• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate: Required for operating drones for commercial purposes.
• Hardware Integration Experience: Understanding of standard procedures for evaluating new components for integration into larger systems, preferably aircraft.
• Software Familiarity: Ability to work with custom software via a terminal interface. Preferred experience in Python for writing and modifying custom testing applications.
• Strong Problem-Solving Skills and Attention to Detail: Capacity to efficiently identify issues, troubleshoot effectively, and implement robust solutions.
• Strong Research Skills: Ability to stay current with emerging drone technologies and industry best practices.
• Effective Communicator: Skill in clearly conveying technical information to diverse stakeholders.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods during testing, field operations, and maintenance. Capable of lifting and transporting equipment and hardware weighing up to 55 lbs.
• Travel and Outdoor Work: Willingness and ability to travel as required for testing, training, and operational missions (estimated 25% travel). Ability to work outdoors over 70% of the time.
