Requirements

Ability to manage transportation functions including supervising drivers, dispatching, routing, and planning (including for-hire cartage and backhauls)
Experience working with cross-functional departments such as warehouse distribution, maintenance, and customer service
Knowledge of DOT/CSA, OSHA, and other government regulatory compliance
Familiarity with driver hours of service (HOS) requirements, trip reporting, and record-keeping
Skills in negotiating rates for third-party services/contract drivers
Capability to analyze transportation activities and implement changes based on results
Proficiency in developing and maintaining reporting on metrics like cost per mile, operating ratio, driver/truck utilization, and delivery performance
Understanding of fleet operations, equipment maintenance, and on-board computer systems

Responsibilities

Manage transportation operations to ensure safe, timely, and accurate delivery to customers
Coordinate with cross-functional departments to resolve transportation-related issues promptly
Plan and coordinate deliveries, backhauls, and for-hire cartage; determine efficient, economical routes and shipping methods
Negotiate rates for third-party services/contract drivers as needed
Manage dispatch process to optimize driver scheduling, resource utilization, and equipment efficiency
Ensure compliance with DOT/CSA, OSHA, and other regulations; oversee review of HOS, reporting, and record-keeping
Partner with Fleet Operations and Compliance team for safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and recommendations
Analyze transportation activities, recommend/implement changes, and track key metrics (e.g., cost per mile, delivery performance)
Monitor equipment maintenance and availability; ensure procedures for efficient operation are followed
Work with maintenance team for preventative/corrective maintenance and inspections
Maintain, promote, and reinforce safety programs and security awareness
Report, record, investigate issues (description cuts off here)
