Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technician
  • Ability to work under immediate supervision
  • Expertise in maintaining sterile technique
  • Availability for part-time schedule: 6 day shifts per 2-week pay period, primarily days with possible weekends/evenings/holidays
  • Participation in 1 in 4 call rotation, including 1 week night/week, every 4th weekend, every 4th holiday
  • On-call response time of 45 minutes for emergent trauma; 20 minutes for OB in active labor (ROM or 6cm); in-house for all VBAC/TOLAC labors from active labor until delivery

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgeon during surgery by passing instruments and other equipment in a prescribed manner
  • Perform correct sponge, instrument, and needle counts and coordinate with the circulating nurse for accuracy
  • Collaborate with the nurse to handle tissue specimens properly
  • Assist circulating nurse in preparing the operating room for surgery, including cleaning and arranging furniture
  • Provide necessary supplies and equipment for operative procedures based on hospital procedure and surgeon’s protocol
  • Prepare the sterile table for each procedure, ensuring required instruments (e.g., suture, blades, cautery, suction, implants, medication, solutions) are available
  • Perform proper clean up and sterilization of instruments, linens, and operating room
  • Accurately inventory, order, and stock supplies according to facility and departmental procedures; check in supplies and equipment for each procedure
  • Participate in emergent trauma situations, assisting emergency room nurses and responsible medical staff as required
  • Perform related work as assigned by manager
