Requirements

Candidates should possess a degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Bioengineering, AI/Machine Learning, or Applied Mathematics, or a related field such as Molecular Biology, Genetics, or Biochemistry. A registered and in good standing attorney bar and USPTO registration are mandatory, with USPTO preference. A minimum of 8 years of related experience, with 6-8 years in the IP field, is required, and advanced degree holders may be considered with slightly less experience. Familiarity with patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, prior art searching, and patent challenge procedures, including inter-partes review (IPRs) and patent invalidation, is preferred.

Responsibilities

The Senior IP Counsel will provide strategic IP advice to enable business objectives worldwide, capture new innovation and build Natera’s patent portfolio through strategic patent drafting and prosecution, understand the competitive landscape and identify opportunities and mitigation threats, particularly in bioinformatics, AI, and machine learning, manage or support litigation and mitigate risk, support licensing, M&A, and other commercial transactions, assist in the development and optimization of company IP systems and infrastructure, and perform other duties as assigned.
