Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related degree/diploma, with knowledge in the biotechnology/biomedical industry, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Strong problem-solving (troubleshooting) abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and good technical writing abilities are required, along with computer experience and literacy. Familiarity with field optical alignments, robotics, electrical/electronics, and mechanical systems is also necessary.
The Senior Field Service Engineer – South Africa will be responsible for direction and coordination of service-related activities of Illumina products in Africa, including installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and engineering change upgrades. They will assist with interfacing between the field organization and internal support structure, serve as a focal point for problem resolution assistance, edit and modify service manuals, install and upgrade instrument systems, provide technical support to staff and customers, manage service parts inventory, maintain customer information and databases, and respond to service requests while ensuring customer satisfaction. Additionally, the incumbent will travel approximately 60-70% of the time, working in conjunction with other staff to coordinate new system placements, promote upgrades and contract renewals, and maintain routine contact with the existing customer base.
