Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join the Data side of our AI team. This role is central to our AI model training operations, focusing on all aspects of data collection. We specialize in building high-quality datasets at petabyte-scale and low cost through a synergistic integration of infrastructure, engineering, and research.

The Platform team at Speechify is responsible for building and maintaining all backend services, including but not limited to payments, analytics, subscriptions, new products, text-to-speech technology, and external APIs.

This is a pivotal role for an individual who excels in strategic thinking, thrives in fast-paced environments, is passionate about product decision-making, and has a proven track record of building delightful user experiences. What You’ll Do

• Data Sourcing: Be resourceful in identifying and acquiring new sources of audio data, integrating them into our ingestion pipeline.
• Infrastructure Management: Operate and enhance the cloud infrastructure for our ingestion pipeline, currently hosted on GCP and managed with Terraform.
• Collaboration with Scientists: Work closely with our Scientists to push the boundaries of cost, throughput, and quality, delivering richer data at greater scale and lower cost to power our next-generation models.
• Roadmap Development: Partner with the AI Team and Speechify Leadership to define the AI Team’s dataset roadmap, ensuring it supports the development of Speechify’s next-generation consumer and enterprise products.

An Ideal Candidate Should Have

• Education: BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of industry experience in software development.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments.
  • Proficiency in Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
  • Professional experience with at least one major Cloud Provider (GCP experience preferred).
• Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with web crawlers.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing workflows.
• Soft Skills:
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
