  • Experience leading end-to-end U.S. and Canadian payroll operations for over 1300+ employees under 8+ payroll codes
  • Expertise in handling complex payroll matters including share-based compensation, union dues, prevailing wages, federal certified payroll reporting, 401k plan contributions, commission payments, tax-related matters (state unemployment tax, year-end reconciliations, tax documents, IRS notices)
  • Capability to perform weekly payroll journal entry reviews, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and accruals for payroll and vacation balances
  • Skills in developing high-performing teams, driving process improvements, system upgrades, and organizational transitions
  • Ability to conduct payroll variance analysis versus budget, explain discrepancies, and support budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc reporting
  • Experience establishing, maintaining, and improving internal controls, supporting audits, managing segregation of duties, validating system security, and documenting processes
  • Strong partnership skills with HR, benefits teams, and ability to handle senior escalations for M&A integrations, benefits deductions, 401(k) funding, and employee inquiries
  • Willingness to follow a hybrid schedule based out of Tualatin or West Linn, OR offices

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end U.S. and Canadian payroll operations ensuring accuracy, timeliness, full compliance, and implementation of best practices
  • Manage advanced payroll functions and compliance, including share-based compensation, union dues, prevailing wages, federal certified payroll reporting, 401k contributions, commissions, taxes, year-end reconciliations, and IRS notices
  • Ensure accounting and financial integrity through weekly payroll journal entry reviews, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and accruals for payroll and vacation balances
  • Develop and lead high-performing teams by driving process improvements, system upgrades, organizational transitions, and fostering adaptability, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Perform payroll variance analysis versus budget, explain drivers of discrepancies, and support budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc reporting for leadership
  • Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls to mitigate risk, provide audit backups, manage segregation of duties, validate system security, and document payroll processes
  • Partner with HR and benefits teams to align payroll with employee programs and serve as senior escalation point for M&A integrations and complex issues (benefits deductions, 401(k) funding, employee inquiries)
  • Identify and lead process improvements to increase efficiency across payroll operations
