Requirements

  • Tertiary Degree in Law from a well-regarded Australian university
  • Admitted to practice as a solicitor in a State or Territory of Australia
  • Approximately 6 to 10 years of post-admission experience
  • Significant experience in a well-regarded law firm and, preferably, solid experience as in-house legal counsel
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills
  • Knowledge of competition and consumer laws is preferred but not essential
  • Sound knowledge of local privacy laws is preferred but not essential
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying legislation, regulations

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the AGC to identify and manage legal risks across the business, including managing medium to high risks with minimal supervision
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on a range of commercial contracts with business partners in both the private and public sectors, including customers, suppliers and research institutions
  • Support local and global business development activities, including acquisitions, divestments, integrations and in-licensing
  • Support the AGC in advising on competition and consumer law risks
  • Advise on marketing and educational initiatives
  • Partner with the global Privacy team to advise on privacy issues and partner with the global Ethics & Compliance team to manage anti-bribery risks
  • Support the AGC in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of local policies, processes and compliance programmes, including those relating to contract lifecycle management, competition and consumer law, whistleblowing and modern slavery
  • Assist in the creation, upkeep, and application of global policies and procedures
  • Develop and deliver training on global and local policies and laws
  • Ensure compliance with local legislation, regulations, industry codes, and Baxter policies
  • Active involvement in disputes and litigation, including commercial and employment law matters
  • Participate in investigations and inquiries conducted by global and local regulators
  • Provide legal support for other functions such as Procurement, Fulfillment, Finance, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Communications, HR, Technical Services, QARA, and Commercial Excellence
  • Engage in business transformation projects, including legal advice and contract negotiation
  • Coordinate with the Global Intellectual Property team to address local needs
  • Monitor emerging laws and legal developments, addressing their impact on Baxter
