Newsela is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer/Senior IT Systems Administrator to join their Information Technology team. Reporting to the IT Engineering Lead, this role will focus on managing, scaling, and automating the company's infrastructure. Key responsibilities include administering and supporting identity and access controls for corporate applications, automating administrative processes, collaborating with business stakeholders to develop repeatable workflows, and providing engineering leadership support to the support and systems staff. The role involves occasional on-call duties, typically resolvable remotely via a mobile device due to the 100% cloud-based infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- System Administration: Maintain and configure core SaaS systems and internal tools (e.g., Atlassian Suite, Netsuite, Google Workspace, Kandji, Slack) to ensure stability, security, and scalability.
- Asset & Configuration Management: Maintain accurate records of employees, devices, vendors, and applications using Jira Assets, ensuring synchronization with authoritative data sources like HRIS and device management platforms.
- Integration Platform Management: Operate and enhance data flows and business logic using Celigo for reliable, real-time system integration.
- Compliance Support & Observability: Assist with compliance efforts (e.g., SOC 2) by configuring tools like Vanta, ensuring IT workflows (onboarding, offboarding, access audits) meet SLA and documentation requirements. Develop alerts and reports for critical workflow monitoring.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an IT, systems, or infrastructure-focused role (e.g., System Administrator, IT Engineer, Business Systems Analyst).
- Proficiency in managing SaaS systems, automating workflows, and resolving access or integration issues.
- Strong bias for automation and commitment to clean documentation.
- Hands-on experience and ability to understand, communicate, and improve technical workflows.
- Experience in tech, startups, or SaaS environments is beneficial.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders is a significant advantage.

- Celigo or another integration platform (e.g., Workato, Zapier)
- SAML/SSO concepts
