Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, ideally leading product engineering teams with 5–10 direct reports
  • Experience building distributed systems in a startup environment
  • Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails, plus exposure to Python or Go
  • Background in consumer mobile applications and consumer fintech or marketplace products
  • Experience scaling back end engineering teams in both startup and larger tech company environments
  • Strong technical leadership skills with a proven track record of delivering complex projects end-to-end
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with cross-functional partners, including Product, Data, and Design
  • A mentor and coach who thrives in building high-performing teams and cultivating a positive engineering culture
  • Based in the Bay Area, with availability for hybrid work model requiring in-office collaboration at Palo Alto office

Responsibilities

  • Drive the delivery of high-quality features for mobile and web platforms, with a focus on consumer fintech and marketplace products
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top-tier engineering talent as the company continues to grow
  • Lead and mentor a team of 5+ engineers across multiple levels, fostering growth, accountability, and collaboration
  • Partner closely with the Director of Data Insights and Engineering, Head of Product, and Head of Engineering to set technical vision, roadmap priorities, and team objectives
  • Ensure engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, CI/CD, and monitoring, are adopted and maintained across teams
  • Balance short-term product delivery with long-term scalability and maintainability of Ruby on Rails, Python, and Go systems
  • Cultivate a strong engineering culture rooted in collaboration, ownership, and customer obsession
  • Manage a team of 5+ engineers, driving the development of consumer-focused fintech and marketplace products
