Senior Legal Counsel - Professional Services & Education

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic Legal Team, with a primary focus on supporting our Professional Services and Education organizations. This role is ideal for a candidate with extensive experience in professional services and education contracts, subcontracting agreements, Statements of Work (SOWs), e-commerce terms, marketplace agreements, cloud agreements, and software licenses.

What You Will Do

• Provide primary legal support to Confluent’s Professional Services and Education organizations.
• Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and SOWs.
• Negotiate various privacy agreements and security terms specifically for professional services.
• Engage in cutting-edge projects to enhance departmental scalability, growth, and efficiency.
• Train and collaborate with Engagement Managers, sales executives, third-party partners, and customers.
• Develop and create templates, playbooks, and fallback provisions.
• Partner effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve complex commercial transaction issues.
• Act as an independent worker and thought leader within the legal department.

What You Will Bring

• Experience: 12+ years of experience in technology transactions.
• Contract Expertise: Specific experience negotiating professional services agreements, SOWs, subcontractor agreements, master consulting agreements, SaaS subscription agreements, and license and support agreements.
• Open Source: Familiarity with open-source licensing and business models.
• Privacy & Security: Proven experience negotiating privacy terms.
• Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal organizations to resolve questions and concerns.
• Communication & Negotiation: Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Judgment: Ability to exercise sound judgment to address complex issues, balancing legal and business requirements.
• Work Ethic: Capacity to maintain strong working relationships, handle demanding requests, work independently with minimal supervision, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Teamwork: A true team player mentality.
• Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with technical concepts in web applications and a willingness to learn new technical applications.
• Licensure: License to practice law in one or more states.
• Education: Undergraduate degree and a law degree.
