Position Overview

Zoom is seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join its innovative Product Legal team. In this role, you will tackle complex and novel legal issues as we develop solutions that connect people through a secure, AI-first workplace platform. You will be part of a collaborative team of in-house lawyers, proactively assessing and mitigating legal risks and advising on products that impact Zoom and its users.

Responsibilities

  • Product Legal Support: Serve as a key member of Zoom’s Product Legal function, with primary responsibility for supporting products and features including Zoom Docs, Calendar, Email, artificial intelligence, strategic integrations, Workvivo, and other services.
  • Global Support: Be willing to support teams in other timezones, including APAC, given Zoom's global hybrid workforce.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with product, engineering, design, and operational teams to understand the implications of new products and initiatives.
  • Legal & Regulatory Analysis: Identify relevant current and future legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, along with industry best practices, pertaining to Zoom’s products and services.
  • Stakeholder Advising: Advise multiple stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, security, privacy, trust & safety, and business development throughout the product development lifecycle on new products and technological solutions.
  • Legal Product Reviews: Conduct legal product reviews and maintain an inventory of features, technology, data, and compliance requirements.
  • Strategic Alignment: Regularly meet with internal teams (e.g., product) to understand strategies, roadmaps, and initiatives, advising on new features, activities, and markets to ensure alignment.
  • Risk Mitigation: Provide pragmatic legal and regulatory guidance on product design and modifications, proactively identify associated risks, recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences for legal compliance and proper disclosures, and help document guidance for legal and product teams.
  • Public Disclosures: Draft clear and concise public-facing disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use, and other documents for customers.
  • Agreement Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate various agreements, including inbound, outbound, vendor, infrastructure, partnership, and AI-ML data/model agreements.

Requirements

  • Experience: 10 or more years of applicable experience.
  • Bar Admission: Admission to a state bar.
  • Preferred Experience: In-house experience as a product counsel at a technology company is strongly preferred. SaaS or AI-ML experience is a plus.
  • Domain Knowledge: Experience with UCaaS, communication platform technology, or collaboration features. Familiarity with legal issues such as privacy and data protection, artificial intelligence and machine learning, content regulation, intellectual property, marketing, and consumer protection. A willingness to learn new areas of law is essential.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams, build consensus among stakeholders, and maintain strong relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Ownership & Initiative: Drive to take ownership of projects, including matters of first impression.
  • Adaptability: Openness to adapting your practice in response to a fluid and expanding product roadmap.
