Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science related field (e.g., pharmacy, toxicology, chemistry, biology, or engineering)
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in global SDS authoring, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry

Responsibilities

  • Hazard classification and development of safety data sheets
  • Review and interpret chemical, toxicological, medical and environmental data and develop concise summaries of relevant data to be incorporated into the SDS
  • Conduct scientifically defensible hazard assessments in accordance with global hazard communication regulations and industry best practice, including using professional judgment to develop credible and accurate hazard assessments when available data is insufficient
  • Develop classifications for the transportation of dangerous goods in the U.S. and internationally
  • Author Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the 3EGenerate® or equivalent system for manufactured materials, assuring compliance with international regulatory guidelines (GHS, OSHA, CLP, REACh, WHMIS, etc)
  • Maintain awareness and keep team informed of new industry best practice, impending regulation, and global initiatives impacting SDSs, hazard classification, and handling recommendations
  • Respond to customer requests regarding potential hazards and safe handling information on Lilly SDS
  • Responsible for SDS authoring processes and procedures
  • System owner and admin for 3EGenerate® SDS authoring system
  • Business owner and manager of the external Lilly SDS website and communications (e.g. team email)
  • Oversee SDS global translation process
  • Support process improvement efforts to streamline SDS processes and services across the enterprise and ensure a strong data maintenance process related to the SDS/labelling program is in place
