Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field and a minimum of six (6) years' experience in utility vegetation management
  • OR Associate Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field and a minimum of eight (8) years' experience in utility vegetation management
  • OR High school diploma and a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in utility vegetation management
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator's License
  • ISA Certification as Arborist / Utility Specialist (required if no Bachelor or Associate Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and supervise the vegetation management program, including providing training and direct supervision of others
  • Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Commitment to Zero Harm"
  • Supervise, develop, review and coordinate the vegetation management plan, schedule, and budget; project and manage costs, ensure compliance with AEP Accounting rules, and reallocate funding as necessary
  • Effectively communicate program details, provide status updates, lead planning meetings and stakeholder presentations, prepare supervised staff, and provide clear written reports
  • Develop and manage relationships with operating company and transmission staff, internal/external customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers; participate in Customer Experience initiatives and monitor satisfaction
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and training to improve vegetation management systems, processes, procedures, schedules, and costs; challenge others with informed understanding
  • Stay informed on utility vegetation management practices (including herbicides and growth inhibitors) and advise stakeholders
  • Apply current contract provisions and participate in development and analysis of new contracts
  • Supervise employees, including creating performance plans and supporting execution of the vegetation management plan
  • Represent AEP with external customers, vendors, regulators, and in legal proceedings
