Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer
Position Overview
Quality Assurance (QA) Engineers collaborate closely with the Project Team throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure product quality and performance meet client expectations before release. Effective QA Engineers analyze and understand business requirements, Project and Product Manager expectations, and end-user needs, including user interaction with the software. Involved from the project's inception, QA Engineers will review designs and participate in collaboration sessions with the Project Team to determine solutions for customer problems and assist in defining the scope for new projects. QA Engineers design, create, implement, document, and monitor comprehensive and well-structured manual and automated processes, test plans, and test cases to ensure the product satisfies business requirements, while identifying other influences that might cause the product to malfunction.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic support and work with the engineering team to understand requirements and develop and execute test plans for new software enhancements.
- Manage and execute the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) – requirements analysis, test planning, test case development, environmental setup, test execution, and test cycle closure.
- Create test cases, scenarios, and plans based on enhancement requirements.
- Execute all test plans to ensure newly developed software complies with requirements and is stable for production release.
- Perform Regression, Functional, Performance, Usability, and User Acceptance testing based on documented requirements.
- Participate in Sprint Planning and Story Pointing exercises to provide estimates on risk and complexity of testing development items.
- Thoroughly document all test plans and outcomes in JIRA.
- Troubleshoot software bugs and assist users with support tickets.
- Create training documentation for new releases.
- Maintain an understanding of new testing strategies and best practices.
- Research and understand customer requirements and user stories, with the goal of identifying and revealing potential issues and gaps within the software.
- Translate user stories into detailed test scenarios and test plans.
- Design and implement test strategy, test cases, and debugging, and define corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain innovative, repeatable test plans based on project requirements.
- Work with the Project Team to troubleshoot test failures and resolve issues arising in various test environments.
- Proactively identify any potential issues users may encounter.
- Identify, isolate, track, and communicate bugs (issues) in a clear and concise format and work with developers and Project/Product Managers to resolve them.
- Perform manual testing to ensure product quality and performance.
- Review user interfaces for consistency and functionality.
- Record, screenshot, and/or document test steps, progress, and results.
- Perform automated testing.
- Create automation test scripts, which may require programming knowledge.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Substitution: Must have at least 10 years of on-the-job experience.
- Minimum Years of Experience: Must have a minimum of 10 years, including cloud professional certification.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a federal background and drug test as per job description requirements.
- 5+ years of experience performing regression testing, manual testing, and developing testing automation.
- Experience running Agile development processes.
- Proficient in JIRA and Confluence for task tracking and documentation.
- Knowledge and experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a must.
- AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification required.
- Familiarity with AWS CloudWatch and reviewing logs.
- Experience using 1 or more testing frameworks.
- Experience with a test management tool such as X-ray.
- Ability to follow acceptance criteria and develop relevant testing plans.
- Proficient in SQL.
- Experience with Postman.
- Experience using relational databases.
