Requirements

Candidates should possess a BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience, with 12+ years of relevant experience in stream processing and distributed systems. Strong fundamentals and extensive experience in the architecture, design, and development of large-scale distributed systems are required. Expert-level understanding of cloud engineering principles, including experience building and operating mission-critical systems across multiple public cloud environments, is essential. Proficiency in Go, Java, Scala, or Rust is necessary, along with the ability to lead development in these languages. Specialized knowledge in distributed systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

The Principal Engineer will architect and drive the technical vision and roadmap for scheduling and deployment of Flink, including autoscaling and state management. They will provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, setting high standards for design, development, and operational excellence. This role involves independently driving the architecture, design, and execution of complex, cross-functional software projects from inception to production. Responsibilities also include leading and contributing to open-source software, particularly Apache Flink, and acting as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and improving operations for complex, large-scale technical stacks across major cloud providers. Mentoring and coaching junior and mid-level engineers is also a key responsibility.
