Requirements

Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in infrastructure, network engineering, or hosting environments. Experience with virtual networking (public/private cloud), SDN, VXLAN/EVPN, BGP, L2/L3 routing, and Linux and Kubernetes networking is required. Proficiency in Go or Rust, along with network automation and observability experience, is also necessary. Familiarity with PHP and SQL, high-performance networking hardware, legacy system modernization, network security, multi-tenant firewall experience, or a cloud provider/hyperscaler background are considered bonus experience. Clear communication across engineering and leadership is essential.

Responsibilities

The Principal Engineer, Cloud Networking will lead the technical design for next-generation cloud networking solutions, including VPC, security groups, gateways, and routing domains. They will align the networking roadmap with product and infrastructure teams, drive the implementation of control/data plane features and network orchestration, and manage services such as BGP peering, tenant isolation, and network policy enforcement. Responsibilities also include prototyping and validating new capabilities at scale, supporting production systems and incident response, and extending Vultr's control plane to integrate networking features.
