Requirements

  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Knowledge of hemodialysis machine setup and operation
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Participation in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities
  • Experience or training in ESRD regulatory and legal requirements
  • Skills in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as allowed by state law
  • Competency in obtaining vital signs, weights, and monitoring patient responses

Responsibilities

  • Participate in recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training of clinical and facility staff
  • Function as preceptor in direct patient care training programs
  • Deliver and maintain competency evaluations/audits for other PCTs
  • Collaborate with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator on quality standards, education, and CQI
  • Provide coaching and developmental support to clinical and facility staff
  • Educate personnel on facility water systems, environmental integrity, and safety
  • Ensure strong communication on training and organizational development programs
  • Implement/design educational programs for PCT staff (e.g., contests, team-based)
  • Monitor patient care processes through CQI activities and incorporate FMS policies into training
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access patency
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as delegated
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed, and monitor patient response
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform functions for treatment discontinuation
