Braven is a national nonprofit dedicated to preparing college students for successful careers. This part-time Grader role supports students (Fellows) in the Braven Accelerator program, focusing on their academic mastery and engagement. The Grader is the primary academic support for a caseload of students and reports to the Director, Program Success on the RU-N Team.

Requirements

  • Prior experience using Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets), Zoom, and LinkedIn is highly preferred.
  • Comfortability learning new tools like Canvas, Speedgrader, and partner higher education systems.
  • Access to a laptop or desktop computer for training, Learning Labs, and grading.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in teaching, serving as a Teaching Assistant, or a similar role.
  • Prior experience coaching students or adults.
  • Professional work experience.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Exemplification of Braven’s core values.
  • Experience that aligns with Braven's mission and prepares you to work with Braven's student population.

Responsibilities

  • Grade assignments for an assigned group of students using rubrics and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Support students flagged for grade, engagement, or other personal issues.
  • Communicate student progress, engagement, and upcoming deadlines to the Braven team, facilitators (Leadership Coaches/LCs), and students.
  • Attend one virtual class (Learning Lab) per week:
    • Tuesdays: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM ET
    • Wednesdays: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM ET
    • Fridays: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM ET (Purpose: Build relationships, provide support, answer assignment questions, observe cohorts, and potentially substitute for LCs.)
  • Hold one hour of virtual office hours per week to support students and proactively reach out to those needing extra help.
  • Provide support to students outside of office hours as needed.
  • Internalize Braven's instructional content (modules, slide decks, assignments, rubrics).
  • Attend all live trainings and complete weekly asynchronous training (30 minutes) from weeks 3-12 to ensure grading consistency and address questions.
  • Serve as a Braven ambassador on campus by participating in panels and sharing experiences, as time permits.
