Responsibilities

  • Manage daily work and safety of delivery supervisors, routing staff, and other colleagues
  • Ensure the team effectively manages daily delivery activities, including compliance with company policies, adherence to scheduled routes, and provision of safe and efficient customer service
  • Ensure delivery colleagues comply with local, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies and maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic logs
  • Manage labor hours, travel, fuel, and consumable supplies within budget to maximize cost and time efficiency; prepare work schedules, including overtime as needed
  • Manage selection, purchase, and proper use of company assets supporting the delivery department; coordinate necessary repairs with appropriate departments
  • Monitor daily routing activities to ensure all established key performance indicators (KPIs) and sales/customer satisfaction goals are met
  • Suggest efficiency ideas, cost-reduction measures, and assist in implementing delivery changes
  • Monitor utilization of delivery services by reviewing return functions and other routing/scheduling activities to increase profitability
  • Communicate with sales to collaboratively resolve customer or delivery opportunities/issues; visit customer sites and meet clients to address issues and assess delivery difficulties
  • Ensure use and updating of productivity and routing software systems
  • Maintain relationships with colleagues through regular department or pre-shift meetings; foster ongoing interaction, open communication channels, respond to questions, explain policies/procedures, monitor morale, and submit/respond to ideas for improving engagement and empowerment
  • Interpret, train on, and consistently apply company policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with safety department for training, colleague observations, updating preferred work methods, accident investigations, root cause analysis, and routine safety inspections; recommend disciplinary actions or behavior modifications if necessary
  • Perform tasks of supervised colleagues and other related duties as needed
  • Ensure accuracy of time cards, approvals, and scheduling for direct reports
  • Understand and interpret collective bargaining agreements; participate in grievance, mediation, and arbitration procedures in unionized facilities (if applicable)
  • Comply with Sysco's food safety policy and procedures to ensure food security, quality, and legality requirements are met
