Requirements
High School Graduate (Required) or Equivalent (GED)
Two years of retail experience preferred
One-year supervisory experience preferred
Strong written and verbal communication, and bookkeeping skills
Good organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills
Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment
Good strategic planning and business acumen skills
Good knowledge of retail store operations; knowledge of retail management systems
Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Depending on company location, ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable
Ability to meet physical demands of the role (as described in the job description)
Responsibilities
Lead the day-to-day activities of the department operations in a retail store, ensuring associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, operating at company standards and meeting all company goals and key performance indicators
Support the department’s staff efforts and work through timely response to questions, with a caring and appreciative attitude and demonstrated effectiveness in dealing with employee issues
Determine variety and quantity of products and department supplies to be ordered or produced, according to orders and/or sales projections
Monitor and control department costs and expenses; includes maintaining proper ordering and inventory control, ensuring proper weighing procedures, controlling shrink, and monitoring displays
Conduct inventories and cycle counts as required
Develop and achieve the departmental budget, such as departmental contribution to overhead, margin, gross profit, labor and purchase goals
Provide insight and input in department personnel decisions such as hire, discipline, reward and termination
Ensure proper training to all employees
Maintain a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers
Observe sales floor and back stock conditions; take action to correct areas of opportunity
Monitor and address customer issues or questions
Sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation
Work toward continuous quality improvement
Stay current with changing company technology, including software programs
Lead, coach, teach and reinforce Metcalfe’s culture, customer service, and performance expectations to all Department employees
Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures
Maintain a clean, attractive, and well stocked department, by using structure of the day guidelines, as well as executing “Prime Time” standards
Assure that all food safety guidelines and requirements are always followed and maintained throughout the entire store. Take immediate corrective action if not followed
