Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
  • Strong legal and business analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and nuance
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and convey thoughts on legal risk with a focus on what matters in supporting business initiatives responsibly
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel doing work related to the financial services industry
  • Expertise with consumer financial regulatory laws and/or general risk management
  • Experience working with technology clients or stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Ability and desire to learn new areas of law

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and assessing legal risks associated with select Capital One card platforms
  • Translating the laws and legal requirements into actionable advice for the business teams and translating the business intent for the legal team and legal subject matter experts
  • Understanding business client needs and providing appropriate solutions to achieve desired outcome
  • Collaborating with team members and key stakeholders inside and outside the Legal Department
  • Ensuring project deliverables and timelines are met
  • Advising on Capital One card platforms and data science
  • Partnering with the business to learn about and understand the business intent, investigate and assess the legal and business risks, and help the team mitigate risk and reach their business goals
  • Regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys in a fast-paced environment
