Summary

As Legal Counsel with payments and fintech experience, you will be instrumental in developing the legal framework for Deel’s global regulatory, fintech, and licensing operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to offer expert legal advice on product development, regulatory compliance, licensing, and other key areas to support business objectives. This role is suited for a meticulous legal professional with a solid background in the payments industry, a keen interest in regulated financial services, and an entrepreneurial, problem-solving approach to complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the legal framework for global payments operations.
  • Act as the primary legal advisor for financial and payment services, covering product guidance, regulatory requirements, licensing, and other relevant legal matters.
  • Serve as the main legal liaison for payment product teams, ensuring legal and compliance standards are embedded in new product and business initiatives.
  • Develop and implement efficient, practical, and scalable legal and compliance processes.
  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of internal legal and compliance protocols.
  • Provide guidance on and monitor new laws and regulations impacting payment services.
  • Facilitate the legal aspects of international business travel for employees.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer.
  • Payments Industry Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in the legal aspects of the payments industry (e.g., money transmission, lending, banking services, or fintech) in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Education: JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent qualification, or authorization to practice law.
  • Language: Fluency in English. Additional language skills are a plus.
