Requirements

• Data Engineering Experience: 7+ years of designing & developing data pipelines or real-time applications.
• Spark Development: Ability to develop Spark jobs to cleanse/enrich/process large amounts of data.
• Data Source Integration: Ability to develop jobs to read from various source systems such as Kafka, databases, APIs, and files.
• Spark Performance Tuning: Experience with tuning Spark jobs for efficient performance, including execution time and memory usage.
• File Formats & Compression: Sound understanding of various file formats and compression techniques.
• Source Code Management & CI/CD: Experience with source code management systems like Github and developing CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins for data.
• System Architecture Understanding: Ability to deeply understand the entire architecture for a major part of the business, articulate scaling and reliability limits, and design, develop, and debug at an enterprise level.
• Project Leadership & Estimation: Ability to design and estimate at a cross-project level.
• Mentorship: Ability to mentor developers and lead projects of medium to high complexity.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related degree, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Build data pipelines and derive insights from data using advanced analytic techniques, streaming, and machine learning at scale.
• Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical, highly visible Big Data and Machine Learning applications within a dynamic, forward-thinking team environment.
• Build, deploy, and support data pipelines and ML models into production.
• Work in close partnership with other Engineering teams, including Data Science, and cross-functional teams such as Product Management & Product Design.
• Opportunity to mentor others on the team and share knowledge across the Cars.com organization.
• Lead a team and communicate with management and stakeholders about project status.
