Requirements

Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in engineering management and 2 years of experience as a Staff or Lead-level engineer with full-stack responsibilities. Experience in fintech, payments, or financial systems is required, along with strong technical skills in backend development, systems design, and vendor integration. Experience integrating with SaaS-based financial tools or payment platforms like Stripe, Airwallex, Modern Treasury, or Plaid is also necessary. The ideal candidate thrives in leading through complexity and ambiguity, adapting to emerging challenges and business demands, and making informed decisions by considering tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

The Lead Software Engineer, Payments will serve as the technical lead for Carrot’s financial systems, focusing on payments infrastructure and building secure, scalable systems for global money movement. This role involves owning technical outcomes, influencing roadmaps, and collaborating across teams to deliver scalable solutions. Responsibilities include partnering with Product, Finance, and other teams to design and build secure, resilient systems, integrating external SaaS tools, and building accurate, compliant, and maintainable internal infrastructure. The role also includes people management, leading and supporting a team of engineers by providing feedback, coaching, and career development, while fostering a culture of trust and delivery.
