As the Lead Production Engineer at Sleeper, you will be instrumental in ensuring the stability and polish of our platform. This hands-on, technical role involves owning system stability, guiding a team of Production Engineers, and mentoring team members. You will handle bug fixes, customer-facing issues, and technical debt, while also prioritizing work, ensuring code quality through reviews, and fostering team growth. This position is a blend of senior engineering and technical management, focused on operational excellence and product refinement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Prior experience in a lead or mentorship role is preferred.
  • Strong technical proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Swift, Kotlin).
  • Proven ability to effectively triage and resolve production issues.
  • Experience conducting thoughtful code reviews and mentoring other engineers.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality, maintainability, and user experience.
  • Bonus: Experience with high-traffic consumer applications, gaming, or fantasy sports platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Prioritize: Own the backlog of bug fixes, support tickets, and maintenance tasks, prioritizing to maximize product quality and engineering efficiency.
  • Mentor and Review: Coach a small team of Production Engineers and review all pull requests to maintain technical standards and best practices.
  • Stay Hands-On: Actively participate in fixing bugs, resolving production issues, reducing technical debt, and implementing minor features.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product, support, and senior engineering leadership to triage user issues and make informed tradeoff decisions.
  • Improve Processes: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance product maintainability.
