Requirements

  • Adheres to the Organization’s Compliance Program, including all regulatory and policy requirements
  • Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures, radiological equipment operation, and quality control
  • Ability to maintain sterile technique according to established policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations
  • Compliance with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality
  • Familiarity with organization’s medication labeling policy for drawing up intravenous medication
  • Skills in processing x-ray images and archiving to image repositories, CDs, or DVDs
  • Understanding of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools and practices
  • Ability to inspect equipment daily, make recommendations for replacements/repairs, and ensure environmental integrity
  • Knowledge of patient billing, including reviewing procedures, documenting charges, and verifying CPT and ICD-9 codes
  • Effective communication skills with physicians and staff

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in performing interventional radiology procedures
  • Performs patient and procedure room preparations, including stocking supplies, setting up trays, and cleaning post-procedure
  • Reviews patient-specific procedure orders to determine needed materials/supplies
  • Explains procedures to patients, answers questions, addresses concerns, and prepares patients (positioning, shaving, prepping)
  • Handles patient transfers and transports to/from procedure room
  • Inputs patient data into the C-Arm and acts as scrub assistant during procedures, administering fluoroscopy
  • Draws up and labels intravenous medication per policy
  • Processes and archives x-ray images per policies and regulations
  • Supports quality standards through CQI, implements quality goals, and ensures accurate/complete medical records with regular audits
  • Maintains facility cleanliness, safety, equipment functionality, and assists with hazardous waste disposal
  • Manages inventory, ordering of supplies, and efficient utilization to prevent waste
  • Participates in Governing Body and CQI meetings, assists with agendas, data gathering, and reporting
  • Ensures effective communication with physicians, addresses concerns, and ensures necessary instruments/equipment availability
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees
  • Reviews procedures for accurate and timely patient billing, documenting charges and verifying codes
