Candidates must be able to explore, recommend, and coordinate insurance and financial assistance options for kidney dialysis patients. They must understand Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement, State Renal programs, and COBRA. The role requires the ability to determine Medicare eligibility, assist patients with applications, and act as a liaison between patients and agents. Tracking specific patient periods, monitoring Medicaid status, and evaluating personal financial information for indigent programs are essential. Candidates must also maintain accurate patient insurance information for the Accounts Receivable Department and complete monthly audit exams to stay current on internal policies. Experience with desk and personal computer work, along with interaction with patients and facility staff, is expected.
The Insurance Coordinator will educate patients on available insurance options and ensure they complete the application process. They will obtain necessary signatures, discuss options during changes in employment status, and complete paperwork for disputed claims. Responsibilities include collecting documents for indigent waivers, discussing insurance options when contracts terminate, and verifying Medicare and Medicaid eligibility and status. The coordinator will also work with patients to determine eligibility for indigent programs, track and complete waiver applications, and ensure all patient insurance information is updated and accurate. They will address discrepancies, research and answer questions, and ensure payment for dialysis treatments from insurance companies. Monthly reports on caseload progress will be prepared and analyzed, along with auditing billing systems for accuracy. Information on patient insurance status and action plans will be provided to QA teams, and presentations on insurance and financial assistance may be necessary. The role may also involve assisting with projects and other assigned duties.
