Requirements

  • Earned a Juris Doctor (or equivalent degree) from an accredited law school
  • Current and active member in good standing of a U.S. state and/or federal Bar Association
  • Practicing lawyer for at least 4 years
  • Experience in contract drafting and negotiations
  • Familiarity with employee benefits products and services, including:
  • Supplemental health products
  • Disability
  • Stop-loss insurance
  • Account-based plans like Health-FSAs and HRAs
  • Experience with leave laws (FMLA, state equivalents)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex issues simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a large number of stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with supervising attorneys to support a broad range of legal department responsibilities
  • Identify areas of risk and research options to resolve identified issues
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements, including Client Service Agreements, Business Associate Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, and settlement agreements
  • Provide practical, legal, and business advice to employees and counsel employees and management on legal and strategic matters
  • Partner with internal departments to ensure all stakeholders' interests are covered during agreement negotiations
  • Respond to data security inquiries and data questionnaires from customers
  • Oversee data collection, use, access, and transfers with specific data protection issues
  • Effectively communicate regulatory and procedural changes and important issues to affected employees and business units
  • Direct and manage outside counsel as needed
  • Work on other issues and areas affecting Company business and operations as required
